How Quality Craftsmanship Defines Luxury: Unraveling the Making of Made-to-Measure Sofas and Cushions

Made to Measure Sofa and Cusions

When it comes to buying a sofa, there's A LOT of information you need that simply isn't available behind the barriers of a computer screen. For instance, you need to know how soft the fabric is and whether or not it's going to be comfortable enough for you to crash on it and sleep the whole night through without waking up with irreversible back pain.

 Customized option

Fortunately, many furniture companies are now offering an alternative to buying an entire new sofa by allowing you to reupholster it in your own fabric. This is a much more customized option, and you can often save a lot of money on the process as well.

 Hand-tied

One of our favorite companies for this is Maiden Home, a company that offers sofas and cusions that are completely Made to Measure Sofa and Cusions to your exact specifications. Their pieces are all made in the North Carolina region (which is basically like, the holy grail for furniture manufacturing), and their frames are hardwood, their springs are 8-way hand-tied, and their fabrics are luxurious and free of weird chemicals.

We tested out a couple of their Made to Measure Sofa and Cusions , and found that their products were not only really stylish but also extremely comfortable. We loved that they had a modular design and a bunch of different sizes to choose from, too.

The first sofa

The first sofa we tested was the Soderhamn, which is a gorgeous blue velvet beauty that Ajai and Jess both gave 10/10 ratings on. This is a pretty substantial sofa, and it has great back support and a decent amount of depth. However, it is a little on the firmer side and is probably more of a living room/conversation sofa than a lounger/ploppable sofa.

Conclusion

Another great thing about the Soderhamn is that it comes with a bed, which is a fantastic feature for those who want to use their sofa as a guest bedroom. We also liked that it had some very cool details, like the piping around the arms and the tufted backrest, and that it was available in both light and dark blue velvet. The only downside we found with this sofa is that the fabric seemed to get a lot of little dirt particles stuck in it, so you may have to vacuum or dust more frequently than you might on some other couches.
